Sustainability
Berglodge37 is more than a mountain retreat in the Uri Alps. It is a place for people who seek to combine relaxation, nature and conscious living. Founded by Ruth & Martin Reichle, the vision was to create a sustainable seminar and retreat hotel where responsibility is not just a promise, but something we live every day.
Sustainability You Can Experience
For us, sustainability does not begin with a label – it begins with every decision we make. It is reflected in the materials we build with, the food we source, the respectful way we treat people and resources, and the many small details that make every stay feel consciously different.
We don’t strive for perfection – we strive to take responsibility. That’s why we continually question our actions and develop Berglodge37 step by step. Independent certifications such as IBEX Fairstay Gold confirm that we are on the right path, but what matters most to us is that you can experience sustainability first-hand – not as a sacrifice, but as a gain in quality, tranquillity and a deeper connection with nature.
Sustainability is an integral part of everything we do and forms the foundation of our philosophy. During your stay, we are happy to offer groups (by prior arrangement and subject to availability) a 20–30 minute insight into how sustainability is lived every day at Berglodge37.

Building, Materials & Heating
Berglodge37 was built using a high proportion of regional Swiss moon wood – timber harvested during the waning moon. According to an ETH Zurich study, this wood offers improved durability, stability, hardness, fire resistance and natural resistance to pests. All timber used in the construction comes from Switzerland and has an excellent environmental footprint. Local sourcing was equally important for the remaining building materials, including granite from Silenen and Ticino. The lodge is heated by a geothermal heat pump system, and the infrastructure has already been prepared for a future photovoltaic installation. Construction was carried out primarily by local companies from the Canton of Uri, allowing the entire lodge to be completed within just 14 months.
Food & Beverage
Our Alpine cuisine is based on fresh, seasonal ingredients and prepared with care. During the day we serve vegetarian dishes, while guests who wish can enjoy a Swiss meat option in the evening. We source exclusively Swiss meat from responsible producers and believe that reducing meat consumption is one of the most effective ways to lower environmental impact. Seasonal produce, regional ingredients and homemade dishes are at the heart of our kitchen. We deliberately avoid deep fryers and microwave ovens in favour of fresh, honest cooking.
Energy & Emissions
Energy efficiency was a key consideration during both the construction and operation of Berglodge37, including procurement and logistics. We encourage guests to stay for at least two nights, reducing travel emissions while offering more attractive room rates. Rooms are cleaned only after departure, reducing water consumption, laundry and the use of biodegradable cleaning products. Our geothermal heating system requires very little energy, and all kitchen appliances meet the highest energy-efficiency standards. Guests are encouraged to travel by public transport. As the Eggberge are car-free, Berglodge37 is reached by cable car followed by a short walk. Continuous improvement is embedded in our daily operations.
Responsible Purchasing
Sustainability guides both our construction and our daily operations. Wherever possible, we work with regional partners. Our bread comes from a bakery that uses only Swiss ingredients. Our wine selection consists exclusively of Swiss wines, including two from the Canton of Uri. Yogurt is produced locally on the Eggberge, breakfast eggs are supplied whenever possible by our team members’ own hens, and our cheese comes from nearby Alpine dairies. We value long-term partnerships and maintain close relationships with our suppliers.
Recycling & Waste Management
We avoid waste wherever possible and continuously optimise our processes. Through an ongoing improvement programme, we regularly review and refine how we use resources, reduce waste and improve sustainability throughout the lodge.
Our Team
We see ourselves as an innovative employer in the Canton of Uri. Alongside full-time positions, we also offer flexible part-time opportunities that allow, for example, young parents to combine work and family life. Every member of our team shares the vision and philosophy of Berglodge37 and is encouraged to contribute ideas through our participative leadership culture. We value flat hierarchies, personal responsibility and the continuous development of each individual’s talents.
